I Got Bridged!

Last summer Joy Morin (on the right in the photo) from the wonderful Portsmouth non-profit greeted us at the Kittery Block Party weekend. For those not familiar the “I got bridged” is a charitable organization focused on “bridging the gap” for those in need of help in the Seacoast area. You may have seen their volunteer shuttle service if you live in the neighborhood.

Her son Freddy Petrone (on the left in the photo) is the group’s director. He’s legally blind and couldn’t see the paintings in the tent. On his left forearm is a tattoo of the 1A bridge from the identical angle and position to the painting. Joy immediately noticed this uncanny coincidence and introduced herself. We planned a project for a custom painted print with extra texture where you can run your hands across the painting and feel the movement of the air, the water and the bridge.

Just this weekend Christmas came early and it was time to deliver the surprise! I came by the recovery church on 129 Miller Ave and met this wonderful group of folks just as they were closing up their morning operations. To say these folks were generous was an understatement. I was humbled by the kindness of everyone I met and the generous ways they help the community. It’s amazing some of the doors opened through sharing art.

I wish the folks at “I got bridged” the best of luck in their very important mission. I hope these paintings continue to radiate little bits of happiness every day into everyone who passes by them for as long as possible.
