Painted Prints
I’m the type of painter that loves making my art accessible to any fan. In my early days I used to try and manually re-paint copies on blank canvases from scratch. Perhaps it was good practice at that point in my career but I found myself quickly buried in time-consuming work.
But I’m still all about sharing the creations in many different forms. The postcards and acrylic plexiglass prints come out lovely, affordable and have been popular sales.
But I want to talk about Giclees.
Giclee pronunciation: gi·clée, or “gee-clay” is a modern high-quality digital print form of paintings using ink-jet printers with long-lasting high-fidelity colors. Color is the key ingredient in my work. Bright high-intensity vibrant palettes is what really makes these pieces special. I’ve tried several professional print companies for canvas prints. While some companies have pleased me with intense oranges or blues, others with purples or canvas quality, none have proven to be consistently reliable across the board with my spectrum of work.
That being said I HAVE found ways to make it work! I paint ON TOP of the prints to compensate for spots where the colors need improvement. I call these “painted prints”. They have the same sizes as originals, equally intense colors, original thick dimensional brush strokes and for most folks, look identical to the original.
I’ve made dozens of these painted prints over the last 2 years. I enjoy the process where I re-mix the formulas of the original colors, walk in the creational footsteps of popular work, and find opportunities to do interesting touches deviating from the original making more improvements and uniqueness. As a general rule I sell these pieces at 1/3 price of original. Since they use near identical paint mixes, they do take up to 8 weeks to dry.
Please do get in touch with me and let me know if I can make a painted print of any piece on the site. I’d be happy to make it happen.
