On Glass and Taxes

I know you are used to posts from Pete that are poetic and thoughtful. I will do my best, but writing artistically is not my strong suit. Creating art is where I shine.

Honestly, creating is the fun part. I know every cut and burn leads to something I love (or at least a lesson learned in what glass is a pain in the a$$ to cut). It’s always hard to pull myself away from the art. I would rather be creating than working, or working out, or eating healthy or just about anything else!

Unfortunately, sometimes you have to do your day job so you can come home to do your art job. Or even if are in your art realm, you have to the back end stuff: maintain your art inventory, website updates, marketing…or WORST OF ALL…the taxes!

Luckily, Pete never has to do any of the taxes. That’s my job! Hi! I’m Katie, the second part of Brave Boat Studio. I’m also known as the Glassy Badger to most and the Tax Badger to some. My day job is so completely the opposite of my fun job, I prepare taxes for a living.

This Saturday, I’ll be speaking from 11-12:30 at the New Hampshire Art Association about Taxes for Artists. It will be in person and we will also have Zoom options. Topics include: what you need to know, what you can deduct, what you definitely cannot deduct, how to track, what taxes you pay and why, the list goes on and on.

Please join me and make this part of the artist life a little easier. That way we can get back to the fun stuff…glass cuts and welding!
