Wet Paint! Petite: Kittery Snow

The snow’s been back in the neighborhood in a big way here in Kittery. I painted this small 16Wx20H while watching the snow fall outside the window today. Anyone that’s walked in an empty neighborhood following a snow storm can probably appreciate the quaint serene silence you feel as the snow illuminates the otherwise dark stillness. In scenes like this street lanterns have a lonely artful mystique about them that I find inspiring.

Someone at a gallery once said to me “a painting needs rhythm”. While I don’t totally know what they meant I often think about the moment I heard that. My best guess is “rhythm” means harmonizing direction and flow of lines and colors. If that’s right I like to think the movement of air in these winder scenes contributes to a sense of flow which ties the scene together.

Anyways I hope you enjoy the winter weather and I appreciate you taking the time to read. Reach out to me anytime if you have requests along the themes of my recent work. I’d love to hear from you.
