Wet Paint! 2KR Buoy #3

This piece is a continuation on the focus of minimalism. It’s quite a paradox. Impressionism entails expressing more with less. Capturing the movement of air, water, light while using as few brush strokes as possible. Imagery that looks light and effortless yet the medium is difficult and unforgiving.

I try to post a painting on a weekly cadence. In reality a significant amount of what comes off the easel just doesn’t meet the bar of quality. Quite a bit of material gets tossed. Fortunately this one comes close to what I was hoping for.

For those in Kittery you might know of the 2KR Buoy. It’s a bit of a local legend. On foggy days it whistles and hums audibly from the waterside. It sits alone less than a mile off the coast from Whaleback lighthouse. The solitude of the man-made structure, out among the flat open tranquility of the open sea, gives it such a memorable mystique. Sort of like an unassuming obscure singing device in the middle of nowhere forgotten by time.

This is a 40W x 16H painting with 2” deep canvas. The underpainting is magenta/orange. It will take about 6-8 weeks to cure at which point I’ll bring it to the shop.
